Summary:

I am a registered professional engineer with a B.A. in anthropology, M.S. in environmental engineering, and Ph.D. in civil engineering. With more than 30 years of environmental engineering experience, I help clients preserve, protect, and restore natural resources. Greenvironment, LLC, was established in 2004 as my private environmental consulting practice.

Much of my work involves assessing and remediating soil and groundwater contamination using a wide array of physical, chemical, and biological technologies. Contaminants I’ve addressed include chlorinated and non-chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs); petroleum compounds; arsenic, chromium, and other heavy metals; radionuclides; and a host of others. Clients include Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies grappling with some of the most challenging contaminated sites in the United States. Assistance provided includes expert witness/expert consulting services in lawsuits involving soil and groundwater contamination.

A particular specialty is the assessment and remediation of petroleum additives, including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), ethanol, and other fuel oxygenates. I served as the lead editor of the MTBE Remediation Handbook and co-wrote and co-presented more than 100 seminars teaching attendees how to assess and remediate fuel oxygenates and other VOCs.

Another primary practice area is the development of sustainable solutions to prevent environmental problems. I am a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional with expertise in a broad range of areas related to sustainability including drinking water supply, water quality, water conservation, storm water, wastewater, green materials, solid waste, forests, and biomass/biofuels impacts.

• Serve as an expert witness/expert consultant in soil and groundwater contamination cases

• Co-principal investigator of a statewide study to assess contamination risks and identify ways to prevent pollution of public water supplies

• For an alternative energy client, testified before state legislative committees about the impacts of burning construction and demolition debris

• Invited workshop presenter at National Ground Water Association conferences

• Delivered more than 60 presentations explaining bioreactor groundwater treatment technology

• Demonstrated that burning wood to generate electricity emits more carbon dioxide than coal, ultimately prompting Massachusetts to change its regulations.
