I co-wrote/co-presented over 100 seminars on remediating MTBE, TBA, ethanol, and/or other VOCs in the United States, Canada, England, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, and the Czech Republic (see list here). Some were presented to regulatory agencies, others at environmental conferences, and many were held in private venues for mixed audiences of regulators, industry representatives, educators, remediation technology vendors, lawyers, and environmental consultants. I arranged the seminars in the United States and Canada.

The seminars were typically four hours long (but sometimes as short as two hours), delivered by two to four presenters. We discussed contaminant physical and chemical properties, contaminant fate and transport, site assessment, available technologies to remediate soil and groundwater, and remediation case studies. Attendees came from diverse backgrounds, and many attended more than once.

I co-wrote/co-presented three-hour-long workshops titled Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Remediation at AEHS Foundation’s Annual International Conferences on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022.

Each year from 2008 through 2012, organized and moderated a 1.5- to 2-hour-long session titled “Regulatory Panel Discussion: Grappling With Vapor Intrusion” at the Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy in Amherst, MA. The panel comprised officials from state and federal regulatory agencies who deal with the issue of vapor intrusion.

Gave more than 60 presentations to regulators, consultants, and site owners about bioreactors for treating MTBE, TBA, and other gasoline constituents in groundwater (for more detail and a link to an example presentation, see the Projects—Marketing page).

Testified before legislative committees at the Massachusetts State House on four occasions (for more detail and links to the written testimony, see the Projects—Alternative Energy page).
